What a Marmi Stone Warranty Covers

  • Manufacturing Defects: Our 1 year Limited Warranty on stone slabs and tile covers defects in the stone that originate during the manufacturing or fabrication process. This might include issues that arise from the cutting, shaping, or finishing of the stone.
  • Installation Issues (if installed by Marmi Stone): If Marmi Stone provides installation services, clients receive a 1 year Limited Warranty covering defects related to the installation labor. This addresses issues like improper setting, attachment, or alignment due to installation.
  • Quality of Material: Marmi offers “first quality stone material.” This means the stone, at the time of purchase and installation, meets Marmi’s quality standards.
  • Marmi Editions: A 1-year Limited Warranty covers defects in the stone as noted above and defects in the interior construction of Marmi Editions when including wood and metal.
  • Acceptance: Installation of all Marmi product signifies acceptance. Any claims for damage or shortages must be made within 5 business days of delivery.

What is Excluded (Effects of Use and Wear) and Why

Natural stone is a product of nature, and its unique characteristics mean it will behave differently than engineered materials. Warranties for natural stone from Marmi exclude the following, as they are considered part of the natural material or consequences of its use and environment:

  • Natural Variations
    • Color and Veining: Natural stone has inherent variations in color, veining patterns. These are not considered defects and will vary from samples and even within the same slab.
    • Surface Irregularities: Fissures, pitting, mineral pooling, and other naturally occurring features are common and not covered as defects.
  • Damage from Use and Maintenance
    • Staining: Natural stones, especially marble, travertine, limestone, and onyx, are porous and susceptible to staining from liquids, oils, and acids (coffee, wine, citrus, etc.) if not correctly cared for, cleaned or properly sealed. Staining is not covered by warranty. Even with sealing, stains can occur.
    • Scratching: Natural stones are susceptible to scratching. Cutting directly on the surface or dragging heavy objects can cause scratches, which are not covered.
    • Etching: Contact with acidic substances (vinegar, lemon juice, certain foods) can cause etching, leading to dull spots or surface damage. Etching is not covered.
    • Chips and Nicks: Minor chips or nicks that occur during use, especially around edges, are not covered.  However, repair is generally available for these types of occurrences.
    • Heat Damage: While natural stone is generally heat resistant, extreme temperature changes (thermal shock) from placing hot items directly on the surface without protection can cause cracks or discoloration. This damage is not covered.
    • Improper Care/Maintenance: Failure to follow recommended care and maintenance guidelines (e.g., not sealing when required, using harsh chemicals, not cleaning spills promptly) will void warranty coverage for related damage.
    • Silicon Seams: The longevity and appearance of silicone seams, which are a part of installation rather than the stone itself, are not covered by the stone warranty.
  • Environmental Factors & External Forces
    • Settling/Structural Movement: Damage caused by the settling of floors, sub-structures, cabinets, or building movement that leads to misaligned products, open seams, or gaps.
    • Acts of Nature/Accidents: Damage from fires, floods, other acts of nature, abuse, misuse, or impact causing chips, cracks, or fractures.
    • Repairs by Others: Damage resulting from repairs performed by third parties following an installation by Marmi or installations by contractors selected by the Client and/or Design Professional.
    • Outdoor Conditions: Damage resulting from exposure to outdoor conditions unless the stone is specifically purchased for exterior use and is rated and warranted for exterior use.
  • Consequential or Incidental Damages
    • The warranty excludes indirect costs such as but not limited to fabrication costs, uninstalling/reinstalling, other materials, and loss of use.
